Back in the '90s (cue Bojack Horseman theme music) I was on the Montana Angus Tour, representing Alpine Meadows Angus (my father's purebred outfit). I took a lot of pictures of cattle and horses on the tour. The photograph this image was built from has retained its position on my art board for decades; it is a favorite of my wife and she cajoled me into getting this started by hauling me out into the studio by the ear and cutting shapes for me. I made a quick sketch of the image, then began "painting" with large color areas. These are layered up as I see shape/color relationships. This is my first abstraction using this method; "nonrepresentational" has been the theme 'til now. The title is a bit of art history play.
